When it comes to improving your blog traffic and increasing your blog readers, two names resonate in the Blogosphere: Entrecard and Blogrush.
Lately, there have been heated discussions about which one is winning the battle, which one is better and which one really works. The point of today’s post is to provide you with a comparative analysis of Entrecard and Blogrush, giving you an idea of who’s really winning.
The Architects
Blogrush was conceived by John Reese, the founder and CEO of income.com. Blogrush was officially launched on September 15, 2007. Entrecard on the other hand is the brainchild of Graham Langdon, a 22-year old internet entrepreneur. It was officially launched at the Blog World Expo two months after Blogrush was introduced.
Comparative Alexa Traffic Reach
By comparing the traffic of Entrecard and Blogrush, we will be able to get an idea of how many bloggers visit these websites. Naturally, the one with a better traffic performance has a more active community. Hence, is more popular and more used.

Additional Information: Entrecard has an Alexa traffic ranking of 7,784 while Blogrush has a rank of 5,206 (As of January 7, 2008).
Considering that Blogrush was introduced earlier than Entrecard, it is not surprising that it has a better Alexa Traffic Rank. Unfortunately, Blogrush’s traffic reach and page views drastically declined since it’s launch. Entrecard’s Alexa traffic and page view on the other hand, gradually increased and is expected to continue to grow.
The Entrecard Advantage
Personally, I prefer Entrecard over Blogrush for the following reasons:
- It’s easier to understand how Entrecard works. The concept as to how Blogrush works is still not clear. New users need sometime to fully understand it.
- Entrecard consumes a smaller space in your blog compared to the space consumed by the Blogrush widget.
- Entrecard is much more customizable. With Blogrush, you can change the skin of your widget or improve your blog title, which may compromise your blog’s SEO, to increase your click through rate. Entrecard on the other hand gives you more freedom to maximize your 125×125 banner.
- Pictures are much more “clickable” than letters. Entrecard uses pictures and Blogrush widget uses letters. This explains why I got more traffic from Entrecard than Blogrush.
- Entrecard allows you to choose which blog to place your advertisement. Blogrush does not.
- Entrecard allows bloggers to choose which advertisements are shown on their blog. Blogrush does not. That explains why you get some pornsite links featured in your Blogrush widget. As a remedy, Blogrush allows you to bann specific words or URLs from being shown in your widget. This is inconvenient to bloggers and does guarantee that unwanted links are shown on your Blogrush widget. With Entrecard, there is no way unwanted ads are shown because bloggers have full control on deciding what will be shown on their Entrecard.
- Entrecard has a clearer scoring system. You know how much credits you’ve earned, how you’ve earned it or who gave you the credits.
- Entrecard definitely has a better statistic reporting system.
- Entrecard is more interactive. It provides incentives in the form of credits for its users to visit other Entrecard users.
- Entrecard is also more interactive because it allows it’s members to exchange messages, share credits, recommend each other and do business through the use of Entrecard Credits.
To be fair with Blogrush, I think that the traffic generated from the clicks through it’s widget is better in quality. Those who click on the Blogrush widgets are attracted by the potential information they can learn from visiting the link. This may result to better page views. Sad to say, there’s a drawback to this one. Since traffic earned from Blogrush is highly dependent on a blog’s post title, Blogrush users tend to make their title catchy in hopes of attracting more clicks on their link even when it means failing to deliver quality information.
Overall, I believe that Entrecard is winning the battle over Blogrush. The benefits of using Entrecard outweighs the promise of traffic from using the Blogrush widget. That’s precisely the reason why I joined the growing number of EX-Blogrush users.
Okay, that’s what I think. What do you think? Who do you think has more advantages? ![]()

I think EntreCard has a lot of potential. I can predict that it will soon be a commercial paid services for advertisers.

Hi Terence,
Thanks for dropping by.
Just visited your post and dropped my card. I have to agree with your post. The traffic I got from Entrecard is much better than when I was using Blogrush. You’ll get an even better traffic in the coming days.
Good luck.

Entrecard wins hands down. I have gotten a lot more traffic than I have had through blogrush. It is a great service which I think will only get better.

I stuck with John Reese as long as possible. After reviewing traffic logs, and observing no news from John, I’ve removed BlogRush from my active blogs.
In time, I’ll use that space for sensible monetization.
Right now, I’m thrilled with Entrecard, and the possibilities.

First off let me say I use both.
I believe that Entrecard leads to a ton of click for click’s sake by people just so they can get credits. I do it every day, clicking just to get credits. Is that quality traffic? I think not. A house is not necessarily a home and a click is not necessarily a reader. It’s a vicious cycle, click to get credits so that you’ll get visitors who are only visiting to get a credit.
On the other hand, Blogrush does not bring much traffic, however if you could stick with it until you get some good referrals under you, it could bring more traffic, real visitors who actually read your posts. And the great thing about Blogrush is you can set it and forget it, you don’t have to spend any time clicking for credits. And I have to say it, John Chow had over 1,000 referrals under him in Blogrush. John Chow doesn’t whine about why things don’t work, he makes things work!
I’m ashamed to say how much I spend on Entrecard per day.
One brings a lot of fake traffic and the other brings a small amount of real traffic.
That’s my 2 cents worth………..
Your Blogging Pal,
George

Another advantage for Entrecard that I’ve seen is load time.
Also, I agree that format size is a big factor in the better traffic results. I’ve seen many many more blogs putting Entrecard above the fold or near it. You can fit it in with other important traffic elements. Blogrush is typically relegated to the bottom of the sidebar and will therefore get less clicks.

@ George,
I think I mentioned in the post that traffic generated by the Blogrush widget has better quality.
Actually, one of the reasons why Blogrush is lossing is because bloggers don’t have much to do with it. After they install it.. that’s it. They just have to wait for traffic to pour in. Entrecard on the other hand is much more interactive because it allows bloggers to do something, more than just installing the Entrecard, to improve their traffic.
@ Shari,

Good luck. I’m sure you’ll get more traffic with Entrecard.
@ Bob,
That’s what I missed. Entrecard loads alot faster than the Blogrush widget. Thanks for dropping by.

Bloggingmix is right. You have to be active to use entrecard. I have also used it as a help with my commenting. Instead of sorting through feeds, as I drop cards, I look for posts to make comments on. It’s like stumblealong instead of Stumbleupon.

Anything, ANYTHING would be better than Blogrush. That being said, it can be hard to get adverts on Entrecard once the cost starts going up, everyone seems to go for the cheap ads on the newly added blogs.

I have had some real good success with entrecard. The only problem I am having is that no1 wants to advertise on my site. I’m missing out on a lot of good credits that way.

I’ve tried both, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Entrecard has definitely shown more performance than Blogrush.

Honestly - I’ve had blogrush for a week longer than entrecard and still have no idea what blogrush does for me. However - I see everyday exactly what entrecard is doing for me…. I have to agree that I think it is the better system. I’ll leave blogrush on for now though until I can figure out what it does for me - if anything!

I think entrecard will be dead within a few months….doesn’t generate viable traffic, just gets people to pop in, drop their card and run. So I tried to scam them: http://natespost.com/index.php/entrecard-scam-mongo-credits/

I prefer to use Entrecard simply because it is simple but useful to build up network with other bloggers and i can advertise without spending a dime. You should try if you are using Entrecard yet.
