In case you haven’t noticed, I removed ProjectWonderful from my sidebar today. I have had no luck with it after using it for over one month. Moveover, I think that the revenue generated given the space and position it occupied was not worth it.

For 1 month, the three ProjectWonderful 125X125 banners only earned over $25. That’s a little over the price of one 125X125 banner advertisement on my blog. I also noticed that the highest bid price I got so far was only $0.80 and the lowest was $0.02. The huge range and price deviation occur because the price paid by advertisers depend on the number of bid (demand) and how much bidders are willing to pay. So even if you have a high traffic site when there are no advertisers bidding, your earnings will remain low.
Another reason why ProjectWonderful isn’t wonderful at all and why I took it off my blog today is because of the off-topic advertisements frequently shown on my blog. I know that Project Wonderful allows you to filter advertisements and approve only those that fit your blog’s topic but this means additional work to the blogger and lesser opportunity to monetize your blog. The earnings are just too meager that when you consider the time and efforts you put to keep advertisements relevant to your content, it’s not just worth it.
Other than the meager earning and the irrelevant advertisements, another reason why I took off ProjectWonderful from my blog is because it slowed the load time of my sidebar. This caused the advertisements and links below it to load very slow as well. As a result, my click through rate (Google Adsense) and page view (Links to other posts) are also adversely affected.
Lastly, since Project Wonderful requires you to install a script, it does not only slows your blog’s load time but it makes your blog not search engine friendly. If you’re considering optimizing your blog for search engines to get more of pages indexed in their seach result and increase your traffic, then you should minimize using scripts. By removing the long script of Project Wonderful, I am able to optimize my blog for search engines and give their crawlers an easier job.
To be fair, there are other websites like Entrecard.com that are making some decent revenue from Project Wonderful. Entrecard.com receives over $300 every month from Project Wonderful. I personally believe though that Entrecard.com can make more money from the space and position occupied by Project Wonderful.
What about your experience? Any luck so far? I’d love to know why you are keeping Project Wonderful despite the meager income you generate from it.
Thank you for your time.

I think it depends on the blog focus. I have 3 blogs that do well with advertisers in the women & comics category. In fact, traffic to 2 of them aren’t fantastic, yet I receive bids on an almost daily basis sometimes with bids going up as much as $5. I also place a minimum bidding value at $1.
But your point about the script is something of concern. Hmmm…occasionally it does slow the loading but it seems quite rare.

How can we compare our traffic with Entrecard?
I just removed PW last weekend, 3 days after I removed Entrecard.

As one of your advertisers, I understand
(Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a “Why did you do it? Don’t you know I own you?!?” post).
Personally speaking, it converts rubbish for making money. The real value in it is through being an advertiser. It is ridiculously cheap and you only pay what you can afford. I’ve got a few nice little campaigns that give me a few hits per day. I’ve even got one pointing at a ebay store, and it’s resulted in £50 worth of commission. So it’s really an advertisers game.
Incidentally, I keep it on because it keeps my advertising budget topped up. As money to withdraw and spend on stuff, no. But it’s absorbs an expense.
It seems that they work well on prominent blogs or sites.
Bidders also often lack of funds and not immediately fill up their budget, causing bids to drop. They also tend to look for cheaper ads.
I agree with you, but do you know any better alternatives for 125×125 ads?

Thanks for advertising here. I agree with you. Project Wonderful is really great for advertisers. On the Blogger’s perspective, your blog needs to be as popular as Entrecard before you start to earn the same money they’re making.
I have project wonderful on my site. It makes me more money than google adsense for now so I leave it.

I agree that you need to be a popular site to gain benefits of PW. That and it must be a popular niche too. Mine is obviously too dispersed so I’m thinking of taking it down once I reach 10 bucks.

Hmm, I never used Project Wonderful and after reading this post and comments I think I might give it a try. My blog is really new ( not even a month yet) so I’ll be happy seeing that it has any potential even by making pennies for now

If you want to get your earnings even before it reaches 10, you can send money using your paypal account to your PW then widthraw it afterwards. That’s what I did with my account and it went well.
Cheers.
i did not join Project Wonderful.. I was about to but after reading your post am having second thoughts..
Interesting post!
Gee, 25 bucks a month doesn’t sound all that bad. I reckon the worst thing about project wonderful is that they can pull the ad anytime after they have made their bid. So if you got an 80cent bid and they pulled the ad only minutes later you only get a fraction of that bid. I reckon that part sucks.

I’m not seeing it. Actually, I would be a potential advertiser on your site!
I advertised on your site for a while using project wonderful, and i got quite a few visitors from it…it was definitely worth it to me to get some good solid traffic… but, from a publishers point of view, i can see why you’d want to stop using it.
Great post and feedback. I too was going to install PW, don’t think I’ll bother now.
