Once there was a stock broker named John who got fed up of his job, submitted his resignation letter and left the company he’s working with for good. John read a lot of testimonials from bloggers making tons of money online and he want to give it a try. Just yesterday, he got hold of the latest eBook from “JavaMan”, which reveals how easy Java made $30,000 in less than one month. John was mesmerized at the opportunity and he is eager to make the same amount of money.

Driven by his desire to make money immediately, John purchased a 2 year hosting service with SiteGround and registered his own domain name… www.john-the-incredible.net. John also decided to compete with other bloggers blogging about making money online. He’s new to making money online and he knew little about it but John thinks he’s read it all from the eBook he bought from Java Man. John is also confident that if he goes head-to-head with John Chow, he’s going to beat the hell out of him.
John made his first 5 posts where he shared about how he’s going to conquer the Blog-o-sphere and have it published on his new blog. He then turn to Adsense, got his blog approved and place Adsense all over his blog. He wasn’t contented with the ads, because according to the eBook from Java Man, he needs to maximize spaces of his blog by filling it with advertisements. That way, he’ll earn $30,000 monthly.
The following days, John waited for cash to roll in. He got lazy and didn’t update his blog. He spent his remaining savings to buy a new computer, paid for the internet connection, paid for his rent etc. and now John is broke. It’s been two months since he started blogging and he just made 0.99 in Adsense. It got even worse when John clicked on his own Adsense to boost his earnings. Google is good at catching click frauds so John was caught. His account was suspended, he lost his two months Adsense earnings and has got nothing more left.
John decided to return to his old job as a stock broker. He is lucky that his manager welcomed him with open arms.

Nice read.
In my own experience…
I have started a blog in mid 2007. It covers all sorts of subjects about my hometown in France : Périgueux, and about my own views about local or national news. I am a bit disappointed by the lack of subscription. Although I get about 120 visitors a day (and (slowly) going up), I only have 38 subscriptions by email and a variable amount of RSS subscriptions (about 10). I noticed that if I am more than two or three days without posting an article, the RSS subscription goes down and vice versa when I publish again. I currently post two or three messages a week. It’s not enough I guess. I should aim at one article a day. I hope to start placing advertising from local shops and businesses (and perhaps Adsense) when I reach 150 subscribers (email and RSS) and/or about 500 visitors a day. What do you think ? Is the number right to start generating decent advertising money. Am I right to wait…
Périgueux is a town with 30,000 inhabitants where most people are new to the Internet and the take up is a bit slow (it’s a beautiful region with a lot of farmers and retired people). But I love the people and the city and I think they realise that through reading my articles ; so although the nature of those articles and the niche market I am in, mean that I will never have tens of thousands visitors a day, I think the quality of my visitors is high, as can attest the comments I get…
I’d like to add that I have subscribed to Bloggingmix for a few weeks now, and I do get a lot of useful info from it. So thank you.
William,
Thanks for subscribing.
I visited your blog and it’s written in french so I can’t comment on your content. As to your blog layout, it is appealing, professional and neat. Got interesting pictures as well.
I believe that you need not limit your advertisement to the people in your town. Your blog can be used to promote tourism in your area. I don’t see anything wrong reaching out to a broader audience. Blog promotion to build your readership and traffic needs time. You need to invest more time and resources to make this possible.
As of the moment, I have about 380 feed subscribers, that’s for more than 6 months of continuous blogging. You can organize a blog contest (reward your subscribers) or continue making quality post to attract more subscribers.
You can start monetizing your blog with Adsense if you already have blog traffic. Since you’re starting, avoid overloading your blog with advertisement.
Good luck to you and your blog.
Cheers,
Rocky
It’s an eye opener for all new bloggers like me that not all lemons bear fruit, you have to cultivate it. Thanks of the lessons.
This is a very common misconception in blogging and making money online. I admit, I was in this stage too before. I used to believe that just by putting adsense in your blog, you will earn a lot! ^_^
I am a new blogger as well and whew thankfully how I am proceeding right now is to build quality posts and try to promote it before I start any making money online plans. I know this is hard so hopefully I can learn more from you guys here
