Successful bloggers are usually those who provide value to their readers. The challenge therefore to every blogger is to provide valuable information or services on their blogs. What exactly is a valuable content and how do bloggers make their content valuable to their readers? These are the major issues that will be discussed in today’s post.What is a valuable content?

To answer this question, you need to understand who are your target readers? What are they looking for? Knowing the needs and wants of your readers will enable you to give them exactly what they are looking for. Thus, creating a valuable content.   • Valuable content will keep readers coming back to your blog for updates. - Once your readers find out that your contents are really useful to them, they will either bookmark your page, subscribe to your RSS or will remember your blog.
  • Valuable content will keep your readers stay longer on your blog. - I mentioned before in one of my posts that a huge number of traffic generated by your blog is not sufficient yardstick of successful blogging. Among others, you should also try to consider the length of time that your visitors spend on your blog. Whether they leave as soon as they’ve seen your frontpage or they browse to read some more of your articles. Google Analystics is a good blogging tool you can use to evaluate your blog’s page view, traffic referrals etc.
  • Contents that are valuable are frequently linked to. - Try visiting other websites that provide links to other blogs. You’ll find out that the websites they link to has something useful in it. Creating valuable content is obviously an effective mechanism to earn links from other blogs. An increase in the number of links to your blog will also increase your blog’s search engine ranking.
  • Valuable contents are endorsed, suggested and discussed. - My post on the 7 Blogging Mistake That Bloggers Do When Building Links is the post that has given me the most number of links. Some of the links are coming from forums or discussions. Surprisingly, they even created a thread for the purpose of discussing my post. I also got a link from Yahoo Answers when one of the participants used my article as an answer to one of the questions about SEO and provided a link back to my post.

    • Tips on How to Create Valuable Contents

  • Write about tips, suggestions, and ‘how tos’ that your readers need and want. Make it easy to understand, brief and practical.
  • Answer questions or inquiries from your blog readers. You can create a whole article for this purpose. This will not only create a valuable content for your blog but will send a message to your readers that you value them.
  • Review useful blogs, products and services that you found useful. Provide a link to blogs or websites that you review. I’ve started a short review of the blogs of some of the Blogcatalog members that I have found interesting and useful. Remember that your readers will appreciate it when you refer them to useful blogs, products and services. Just make sure that you give an honest review.
  • Interview people who your readers would like to learn from. Recently, I’ve asked the Top Stumblers of StumbleUpon two questions that I believe my readers will be interested at. What do they like to stumbleupon and how will bloggers increase their chances of getting stumbled by the tops stumblers? The result was amazing. I received 500+ traffic from StumbleUpon and lots of links as well. To date, I still get the ’stumbled upon’ effect.
  • Write about the latest news or write about issues that are least discussed. When you write about the latest news that are related to your blog, make sure that you do this as soon as the news broke out. If you can make a way to be the first to write a about a news, that would be better. Otherwise, expect that other bloggers will write about the same topic. An option would be to write about relevant topics that are least discussed. I’m sure that your readers will appreciate your efforts of discussing these topics. Writing about the least discussed topic will also increase your chances of getting noticed.
  • Share and discuss facts, surveys and polls. People are usually inclined at reading surveys and polls because these are valuable sources of information. According to studies, charts and graphical presentations of data usually catches attention. Hence, when writting about surveys and polls, it’s advisable to include a graphical presentation of your findings. Darren Rowse created a post on one of his surveys concerning fake comments.


    • ConclusionCreating valuable contents for your readers is a major determinant of your blog’s success. Once your blog’s contents are found useful by your visitors, expect them to come back for more and share it to others. Once this happens, your traffic will improve.
