All Blogger templates have a default ‘NOFOLLOW’ attribute on their comments. This is done to discourage spamming. Having a ‘NOFOLLOW’ attribute on your comment means that search engines will not follow any links created on your comments.Since links are vital in Search Engine Optimization, most bloggers invest a huge amount of their time visiting other blogs to leave comments on them and create a link to their own blog. If however, a blog has a NOFOLLOW attribute to the link on its comment, the links that are created will be of less value to those who have created it.

If you are a new blogger and you would like to encourage more participation from your reader and build your community, you can disable your NOFOLLOW attribute to give an incentive to your readers to react and leave comments on your post. Here are some more reasons why removing the NOFOLLOW attribute is worthwhile:

  • Increase the number of comments on your posts.
  • Encourage repeat visits and comments (increase in traffic).

  • Being generous can give you alot of benefits – more friends, more readers etc.


    • For Blogger users, here’s the simple instruction on how to disable your NOFOLLOW attribute on your comments.

  • Go to your ‘TEMPLATE’ Tab.
  • Click on ‘EDIT HTML’.
  • Tick on ‘EXPAND WIDGET TEMPLATE’.
  • Scroll down until you find this code:


    • Removing NOFOLLOW attribute in Your Comments (Blogger)

  • Delete the text in red. (rel=’nofollow’)
  • Save your template.
  • To make it easier for you to find the code, press CTRL+F. Copy and past this code to the search bar dl id=’comments-block’ then hit enter.
  • Be reminded to download and save your template before doing any changes to it.


    • After removing the NOFOLLOW attribute on your comments, you need to inform your visitors that links on your blog have been made ‘DOFOLLOW’ for search engine crawlers. You can do this by simply placing a notice on your blog that links on your comments are made DOFOLLOW. You can also develop your own graphic design.
