Well, are you contented of your blog? Are you satisfied with your blog traffic? Don’t you want to make more money from it? Don’t you want more subscribers or a higher Google page rank, or a higher Technorati or a higher Alexa? I bet your answer is YES!

You GREEDY BLOGGER! When will you ever be contented of your traffic, or how much money you make from your blog? Will you ever be contented in the first place? You know, CONTENTMENT is a virtue. Being contented of what you have makes life better and happier….

Enough of this CRAP! I thought of starting today’s post with a different twist and hopefully get your attention. And if you are reading up until now, then it probably worked.

unsatisfied, not satisfied, unhappy, not happy, uncontented, not contented

Frankly, I’m never satisfied with what I have and with where my blog is at the moment. As soon as I reached my goal, another higher, more ambitious goal is on the way. And by the time my “more ambitious goal” is achieved, I’m pretty sure I’ll be aiming for a much higher goal. I’ll be wanting for more. This is generally true to all bloggers. I’d probably laugh at a blogger who would say he / she is satisfied with a daily 100 visits or a meager $100 Adsense earning per annum. Bloggers who think this way are rare and are near extinction.

My observation that BLOGGERS ARE NEVER CONTENTED leads me to my conclusions that:

  1. Bloggers are also greedy. – Come on, don’t be defensive this time. I know you are greedy as much as I am. I know that you want to earn 6 figure income from your blog like Darren. I know you’ve been working hard to break the Technorati Top 100. I know that you want more, more and even more like I do. Noticed why I used the word more instead of most? Because bloggers don’t have most in their dictionary… they just want MORE.
  2. Bloggers are also exploiters. – If bloggers are never contented and bloggers are greedy then it is most likely that they are also exploiters. The term “exploitation” may carry two distinct meanings according to Wikipedia. The first one is the act of utilizing something for any purpose. In this case, exploit is a synonym for use. The second one is the act of utilizing something in an unjust, cruel or selfish manner for one’s own advantage. Much like clicking your own Adsense to boost your income or using black hat SEO or selling crappy E-books or gaming Alexa or dropping Entrecard to 300 blogs everyday. Admit it, you’re an exploiter.
  3. Bloggers are also narcissists and Sigmund Freud can back me up on this. – How many of you think that your blog is the best in your niche? Or if you think that some blogs might be better, you still think you are better in some ways. How many times do you visit your blog everyday? How often do you check on your statistics? How much time do you spend in your blog over the time you give your family? Unfortunately, bloggers who are never contented think that they’re the best, visit their blog 10x or more in a day, check their stats often and spend a lot of time on their blog. Why? Because they want to know how much more they’ve got and how much better they’ve become.

Okay. Enough. I don’t want to play the “Old Good Blogger” here so I’m telling you what I think. And what I think is, that Contentment has no place in the Blogosphere. Contentment may exist but it’s only temporary. And real Contentment exists only when you are not contented.

While it is true that “Uncontentment” has its drawbacks, it is also true that it brings more benefits to a blogger.

  • With “Uncontentment” bloggers are motivated to achieve more, better themselves and move to the next level. Improvement hardly happens when you think you’ve got everything or when you are satisfied with what you have. Why would you optimize your blog to get more traffic when you are contented with 10 hits everyday?
  • With “Uncontentment” it is most likely that Bloggers learn more. Because bloggers tend to exploit to achieve what they want, they resort to “unethical” tactics, which in the end will fireback to them. Only then will they realize they made some serious mistakes.
  • With “Uncontentment” blogging becomes so much fun. Imagine the blogosphere with no competition. Imagine what happens when Bloggers are all satisfied. I’m sure the blogosphere is not as lively as it is today. Because of uncontentment, greed, exploitation and the desire to have more; the blogosphere now offers click-fraud-free advertisement, a much better Anti-spamming technology, a much better search result, a more updated Google PR etc.
  • Uncontentment means fierce competition and a fierce competition in the Blogosphere means better blogs, more options, more ideas, more innovations etc.

That’s a couple of things I can think of. What about you? What’s your take on the issue? Are you contented with your blog or you desire for more? Feel free to defend “Contentment” but I’m firm with my stand and I have more arguments to support it. Let’s here from you.

Thank you for your time and for sharing your thoughts in the comment. :D
