One of the reasons why some bloggers are active Entrecard users, other than the traffic, is the boost in their Alexa Traffic Rank. Now that Alexa has overhauled its traffic ranking algorithm to include more sources of data, will Entrecard traffic still be effective in boosting Alexa Traffic Rank?

I was doing my usual Entrecard dropping when I noticed that alot of the top Entrecard users’ Alexa Traffic Ranks have gone down dramatically. Here are a few of the most popular Entrecard users whose Alexa Traffic Rank increased after the changes in Alexa algorithm took effect.
- Ahkong.net - From 5X,XXX to 166,5777 (increased by over 100K)
- JoanJoyce.com - From 6X,XXX to 178,765 (increased by over 100K)
- LeeDoyle.com - From 6X,XXX to 128,108 (increase of about 60K)
- AGeeksJourney.com - From 3X,XXX to 171,153 (increase of about 140K)
These are only a few of those who suffered tremendous decline in their Alexa Traffic Rank.
Of course, Entrecard is still a great way to generate more traffic to your blog but is it still effective to boost Alexa traffic rank? Do you think that the new Algorithm implemented by Alexa is better compared to the old one? Has your rank been affected by the changes?
I would love to hear from you. Do share your experience through the comment.
Thanks for your time. ![]()

Looks like your ranking drop too. As you know already, I was one of the bloggers that manipulate the Alexa Traffic Ranking a lot in the past. Now I realize that many sites getting traffic from the following sites are dropping on the Alexa Traffic Ranking.
1. EntreCard
2. StumbleUpon
3. Mixx
I don’t know about site like Digg, but Alexa seem to ignore the traffic from those sites above. I do found that my traffic from FaceBook and some article network does indirectly push my ranking up.
I also predict those high ranking site in China will drop too. Since most of their traffic are due to the Toolbar.
Hope to see some of your insightful information.

Not amused by the new update at all.
EntreCard traffic is only part of my site’s traffic, not all.

Stupid update.
What to do? Move on and adapt to the new changes.

@ Terence,
You’ve raised an interesting point. There’s a strong possibility that Alexa might be doing that. I’ll try to throw a few lines to the Alexa representatives and see what they say about it.
You noticed that.
Thanks for dropping by.

LOL. WTF!#@ that’s my first impression when I saw my Alexa traffic rank increase by over 100K. Twas devastating but I keep a positive mind. LOL. I guess the changes are for the better. Afterall, Alexa needs to make it’s ranking more relevant for it to survive. Meanwhile, all we can do is adapt with the new changes really.
Cheers and hope you get back you rank soon.

You hit the nail on the head. Alexa needed to change to keep its ranking relevant.
I think over the next week or so we’ll see more changes in rankings…. good and bad.

The webmaster traffic has definitely become GREATLY devalued. Sites for more web-savvy people no longer dominate the top 100k - I suppose webmasters will actually have to get major traffic rather than targeted webmaster traffic instead. More work for us =/

If we only focus on EC to boost up alexa rank and traffics ,i might afraid the rank not only increase 100k,but will be more than that .Entrecard is a tool to increase traffics but is not a best tool .We still have to go back basic criteria we should achieve a long term traffics which are:
1)Quality contents-No one will be pro blogger at beginning ,keep on learning and blog ,it will sharpen your writing skill.
2)SEO-Toughest to achieve, but there a method to climb to top rank, you can find more info at seomoz.org
3)Participate in forum-Share ideas, lend a hand when someone is needed our help.Voice out your problems when you face difficulties
There many methods to drive traffics, but do remember, don’t be distracted by so many things.Stick to the method that you comfortable with and make it the best.

Hey your term, increasing alexa rank and the numbers you show are misleading. Increase in Alexa rank means the numbers get lower rather than get higher. anyway, I noticed a decrease in mine too, from 83k to 90k. I’m still hanging on to my spot. ^_^

I have also noticed a huge change in my Alexa ranking. My rank was around 530,000. I now rank at 392,000.

Tt was no longer based on people with the Alexa’s tool bar visiting your site. According to the latest post from Graham about Alexa rank,he stated that it was now based on some new top-secret sauce and he advised that in order to spike in Alexa is the number of links to your website, the more link to your website the better it is.
