I’m looking to get out a new version of Shylock Adsense next month, a major version with plenty of improvements. I already have a number of features that I want to add in this new version, but I’m open to other suggestions as well.

If you’re interested in showing ads only to search engine visitors and still use the Shylock Adsense plugin to insert the ads, check out this hack from Stephen Cronin that lets you do that. It’s a great idea and it will also be an option in the next version of the Shylock Adsense plugin. Until then, you can read the instructions from the link above to make it work.

It should prove especially useful if you suffer from smart pricing or if you want to avoid it.

Version 1.2 of the Shylock Adsense Plugin is here for those that use it. It’s tested on WordPress 2.2+ and 2.3 and we’ve had no problems.

Changes from v1.1

• Top Middle position added. It display the ads above the text, centered in the middle. Top displays the ads to the left. Screenshots below.
• it doesn’t matter anymore if the random position is selected first or second. It can be in any position now.
• you can choose for the ads not to be displayed if you’re logged in as administrator
• if you insert <!-no-adsense–> into a post, it will not display any ads on that page (alternative to posting the ID’s in the admin panel).
• sidebar widgets added
• it should be XHTML 1.0 compliant (thanks to Michael Lankton)

You may have to enter the options again for the Older then X days settings. Please check after you upgrade to see if they’re still there.

Upgrading

1. Deactivate the old version of the plugin
2. Delete it
3. Copy the new version
4. Activate it
