According to the StumbleUpon page that says how to become a top stumbler, in order to grow your profile you need to be a regular user of the toolbar, stumbling and submitting good content on a regular basis. However, this isn’t as easy as it might seem, considering that there are 3.5 million other stumblers submitting content. Chances are that unless you’re one of the first ones to see that article/video/photo, someone else has already seen it and submitted it.
Below are the places where I go looking for interesting content to stumble:
There is a lot of content to come through here but you can find some real nice gems to submit. If you refresh the page every couple of minutes and scan quickly the titles there is a chance you might find something interesting to submit.
Look for pages submitted not too long ago, since Reddit has a different way of keeping stuff on the first page of the New section.
3) Most recent photos on Flickr
Everyone loves a good photo, and this is the place to be if you want the latest additions to Flickr. You might get lucky from time to time, finding some good ones among all the personal stuff that is submitted.
4) Most recent videos on YouTube
Again, quite a bit of videos that wouldn’t interest Stumblers, but some can be good.
5) Deviantart
Needless to say, Deviantart can be a great source of photos to submit. Great stuff there. Any other community like this can be a great source for StumbleUpon.
6) Your Own Feed Reader
If your feed reader updates and you see some great articles, stumble them. Chances are that others would be interested as well if you are. The lists that Mashable or Smashing Magazine compile for example can be great to stumble.
7) Browse sites with stumbled pages
Just by using the StumbleUpon toolbar you can find great sites. When you find something that you give the thumbs up, look around instead of leaving, and see if they have any other good pages to Stumble.
Video sites, other then YouTube
MetaCafe, StupidVideos or any other site with funny videos works and you have a better shot at finding good videos that haven’t been stumbled yet.

This is a great idea. I’ve heard that the number of thumbs up your discoveries get can affect how many times they are shown. So discovering other people’s pages that attract a lot of thumbs up might help when you submit your own pages.
I’ve been stumbling a lot of my own pages lately and I’ve noticed that the results have tapered off a bit. I think that some of my submissions may not be getting a lot of thumbs up. I am going to experiment with your suggestions and see what happens.

From my experience, having a lot of friends can help to gain more traffic.
@Don: Submit many different webpages to your account, not only your own webpages.
Btw, for adding friends check my account (WhatiFind).
