Search Engine Optimization is a must for every blogger who wish to improve their traffic from search engines. I’ve read several Search Engine Optimization articles and books and here’s a summary of the simple ways that you can do to improve your search engine ranking.1. Use text and minimize the use of pictures.

  • It’s true that picture paints a thousand words but search engines don’t see it that way. Search engines love text and if you would like to get a higher position in the search engine rankings, you’d better use more text on your blog. When using pictures to accentuate the points of your article, use the ‘Alt’ attribute to provide a description of the picture. Here’s a link to the techniques you can implement when using the Alt attribute.


    • 2. Use keywords and keyphrases.

  • Keywords and keyphrases are the term/s you wish to associate your blog with. These are words that you wish to optimize so that when people search these words using search engines, your blog or website will come out in the results. In order to get better rankings in your keywords and keyphrases, you should use them on your blog posts. However, avoid keyword or keyphrase stuffing when doing this. Using your keywords and keyphrases a lot of times on a single post is considered as Keyword Stuffing which seach engines do not like. Hence, giving less value to your post.


    • 3. Update your blog daily.

  • Updating your blog on a daily basis will attract search engine crawlers to visit your site often. Once this happens, your chances of getting indexed increases. Adding new information is the best way to update your blog. The more new information you have, the better off you will be! Updating blog on a daily basis is also a good way to attract previous visitors.


    • 4. Submit your blog to search engines and directories.

  • Submitting your blog to search engines and directories will improve your search engine ranking. I have previously written an article on submitting your blog to different directories. I’ve also included a list of directories where you can submit your blog for inclusion.


    • 5. Meta Tags

  • Probably you have read that Google does not recognize meta tags but there are other search engines that still use Meta tags when evaluating your blog. It would still be useful to have one on your blog. I recommend you to have Description Meta Tag and Keyword Meta Tag. All you have to do is generage your meta tags and insert it after your closing title tag ‘/TITLE’ and before closing head tag ‘/HEAD’.
