The site million dollar wiki has been generating a buzz in the blogosphere over the last week.
Big time bloggers like ShoeMoney and John Chow have bought in with a page each and claim to already be reaping the rewards of buying a page, but they are sending 1,000’s of targetted visitors through their blogs - my experiment involves not advertising my page at all, and seeing what happens.
Basically you can purchase any page on the site you like (assuming it is available) at a cost of $100, and be guaranteed it remains online for the next 15 years. A great deal? Not really.
I can put up any page I like on any number of free content websites, such as Squidoo. I should point out that on the Million Dollar Wiki the owner gets all of the money their page generates, but I think organic traffic to the site will be minimal. So what is the draw?
First of all, just like the old classic million dollar homepage where you could buy up pixels, this site will likely see some traffic over the next few months as the buzz peaks. Whether or not you’ll recoup the investment on your page remains to be seen as viral crazes don’t seem to hold longevity (Look up pogs, million dollar homepage, and mullets on google if you don’t believe me).
Here’s the 3 year Alexa graph for the Million Dollar Homepage:

In my eyes, both ShoeMoney and John Chow are self promoting (which they should) but due to this self interest, they will continue to advertise and push the Million Dollar Wiki, which can increase traffic for all and likely lead some to stumble across your page.
Just for fun, I bought a page yesterday. Unlike these guys, I want to see if it gets any traffic at all without my promotion. It’s a popular keyword in this niche (home based employment) but I’ll reveal the name of the page 7 days from now as well as the number of visitors.
I want to see if any of these pages can get organic traffic without a big push. Either way It’ll be fun to design a page featuring our site and services.
I’ll let you know in a week! ![]()

Even if it does send you traffic, its not going to last long

Check out http://www.milliondollarsentence.com/ ! This guy is selling words in one huge sentence. A similar web-site with a different flavor. He’s got an advantage though - no words may be repeated and the idea is better! That means that your word will always be unique!
