Last post I talked about Digg.com which is only one of many social bookmarking tools available online today. In this post we consider a few alternatives to Digg.com such as Netscape, Reddit and Del.icio.us. In order to get the best results from your website promotion you should try to use a number of these social bookmarking websites to drive traffic to your site.

Netscape as an Alternative to Digg.com

Netscape (as a website) first started as a search engine and portal site similar to MSN or Yahoo, but has since followed the same idea as Digg.com and other social bookmarking websites, with users being enabled to vote on websites of interest, which then receive higher rankings on their home page and under different tags. In order to submit your website, or stories, to Netscape you will need to be registered. Registration however allows voting, submission and making comments on the different stories. Its going to be rebranded soon as Propellor.com:

Personally I think this new domain will take some time to get to the same authority as Netscape.com (PR 7) so I’d look for a rocky transition. Nevertheless Its still a great place to submit your stories and ideas.

Reddit

Reddit is another website where users are enabled to post news stories and have others vote on them. The more votes a story receives, the more likely it will be to appear when people are searching and so the more votes your website receives, the more traffic you will be likely to receive.

Del.icio.us

Del.icio.us is another popular social bookmarking website belonging to Yahoo! Users are able to add their favorite websites to the del.icio.us website and tag them with different keywords. The more these websites are chosen as favorites by other users, the more likely they will be to appear when people are searching and so to receive more traffic. Some of the most popular websites will appear on the home page while various others are listed under different categories.

Netscape, Reddit and Del.icio.us are all social bookmarking or social news websites that enable users to add stories or websites and vote on these (either through direct votes or by adding them as a favorite). All three are going to rank by popularity, so keep that in mind.
