If you are looking for a work from home opportunity that enables you to do what you love and use your talents then freelancing could be the right career for you. There are a number of different freelance opportunities available in various fields from freelance graphic design, freelance photography and freelance writing to working as a freelance virtual assistant, sales person, and many other options. I thought I would do some basic queries in our search engine for jobs in each of these categories, and sure enough I got back quite a few good results.
Below are a few options for the ‘biggies’ in the freelance industry and links to the job searches;
Freelance Writing
Have you always had a knack of putting words together and writing out what you think or feel? If this sounds like you then you may want to consider a career in freelance writing. There are a number of different ways that you can get freelance writing positions such as contacting local newspapers and magazines, advertising in your local community, or using online freelance jobs boards such as Elance.com and Guru.com to bid on work. There are also specialized freelance writing websites where you can find freelance writing opportunities. Also give the job search a try in the top menu - I’m always on the lookout for sports blogs that may need some help, so I type in sports blog every day just to see if anything appeals to me.
Freelance Photography
If you enjoy being behind the camera and know how to take great photographs then freelance photography may be the perfect career for you. Once again, you can choose to promote your work online or offline. Many freelance photographers make money by doing wedding photography, but there are also a number of other specializations and you can choose what you prefer to take photographs of. Again here is another good query to find jobs in that niche.
Freelance Graphic Design and Art
Artists have generally tended to work freelance for many years but with the advent of computers there is now a lot more scope for freelance artists and graphic designers. You can also find many freelance graphic design opportunities on freelance jobs boards, but you may also want to promote your work using your own website, offline, in your local community, or to other businesses that can make use of your services.
Freelance Admin Work and Virtual Assistants
If the more artistic and creative freelance opportunities are not really for you, but you are organized, computer literate and have some secretarial experience then you may consider becoming a freelance virtual assistant and doing admin work from home. Freelance virtual assistants deal with a wide variety of different tasks from research and typing, to answering telephones, basic book-keeping and other tasks that the client may require.
Other Freelance Opportunities
Apart from the freelance opportunities mentioned above there are also many other activities that you can do freelance to work from home such as sales, web design, consulting, etc. Think about your skills and the things you enjoy doing and see whether you can turn these into freelance opportunities.
Freelance work covers a wide variety of fields from the more artistic and creative sides such as photography, writing and graphic design to the more administrative and financial fields such as working as a virtual assistant, doing freelance book-keeping or consulting. Think about the skills you have and what you enjoy doing and see whether these can be turned into freelance opportunities as well as looking on freelance jobs boards (including ours) for the opportunities they offer.
