While most postings you’ll see on the web for data entry work are scams, there are literally a ton of data entry jobs out there. Knowing where to look is the key.
If you do a search for data entry jobs on WhyDoWork.com, you’ll find hundreds of legit positions. Many of our listings are powered by the popular freelance site oDesk.com. If you’ve never seen oDesk Trends (my favorite tool on their site) you can easily figure out what skills are in demand, what jobs are on the rise, and where you might fit in.
Check out their volume of data entry postings coming into last month:

Hi,
I completely believe that making right choices is really essential before we jump to conclusions. I know, as a matter of fact, that that’s what mostly people do & there is not need for good guys like you to worry about as I am fully confident that it is rather inside such a messy clutter, a true effort like yours will shine better than otherwise.
P.S.: I will check out that tool you appreciated so much.
These data entry jobs sound like a great way for some people to make money online. Personally I’m probably not a good enough typist for it.
Really cool to have a trustworthy place for data entry jobs, I know alot of people have alot of misconceptions about working from home, and especially data entry jobs, but if its on whydowork it’s pretty legit =D

Hey WDW,
I also use odesk for giving away article writing work when I am too busy to write them by myself.
The main and the most attractive feature of this odesk is its hourly payment application. Its wonderful to know that most WDW listings are powered by odesk.
Thanks for the heads up about the data entry jobs. I have heard of odesk before, but never really looked into this. I might have to see if I can get some freelance writers through that site too.
This is an interesting find. I use to browse through Odesk but not that frequently. Tons of people are there who keeps on asking for a job from home, probably a right place to send them is here.
I’ve never heard about odesk before, but it’s cool using this tool to check what job is available. If I would like to outsource my articles, then I may want to post in odesk too. Thanks for the heads up.
I hadn’t heard of odesk before either. I currently use elance.com and some seo forums to find freelancers. It would be great to have some additional talent pools to find help from.
Yea, I used to look for freelancer in some forums too. Usually I’ll outsource my articles for other of my blogs, open a thread in the forum and you’ll get tons of offers, then you just need to evaluate and pick the most cheapest and good quality 1.
No doubt Odesk is a great platform for the freelancers who are looking for data entry jobs but I think there are some preliminary tests that a person will have to pass in order to get projects on Odesk. Apart from this freelancers work here on time basis and they have to download an application where their every moment is watched by the employer that I think make it something terrible for most of the people.
In today’s economic climate, more and more people are turning to extra work to supplement their income. The great fear is that the “work” might actually be an online scam, so it is gratifying to see that there is actually some “real” work out there!
Yes more and more people are trying to earn an income online or at least a side income. Data entry would be a perfect solution for many of those people. Unfortunately not everyone is cut out for that amount of typing.
That’s a great point you make Aluminum Cases, personally, I do think you have to be a strong willed person in order to succeed in the data entry field.

Data entry definitely ain’t for sissies! It does take a special creature to do data capturing though, and personally the repetitiveness of thisa kind of endeavour will drive me to insanity!
Yes some of my past jobs included some data entry. I did not look forward to going into work those days. My ipod helped me get through it. Some people actually like typing, but it’s not for me.
That’s True Aluminum Cases and I am one of those people trying to earn my income while working from home. I think that is the greatest feeling in the world to be one’s own boss.
Why don’t more people do this? I can’t imagine. I learned a lot from the following:

whether these data entry jobs can be run by a newbie?
Some newbies might be able to handle data entry, but you do need be a good typist and have good basic computer skills. If you are struggling on the computer, it likely would not be worthwhile. I am sure a lot of these positions pay based on how much data you can enter.
I would also add that you need to have good motivation, as it goes a long way and makes you more productive in the end. =D

Some people are just more cut out for this kind of work. For one, you definitely need strong typing skills. Secondly, you need good posture and an ergonomic work station. Also it helps to be a hard worker. Many people would either get bored or worn out from the physical demands.
But even on this site, I seems really hard to get one of these jobs. It seems as if they take forever to back to you, or they already have some one else in mind for the job. And sometimes I seems as if the actual job post is completely fake in my opinion.
So where do I sign up? I type about 60 wpm when last checked, and it’s good that there are some legit data entry jobs ..
