As an avid follower of WhyDoWork’s online forums you would know about our recent contest which asked our members what they plan on doing to grow their online business in the coming year. The result was a $150 to one of our lucky members and a plethora of valuable tips for our members and blog followers.
I have extracted some of the best advice found within those posts, and what I dub ‘the golden rules of success in the online world’. A lot of these tips can be applied not just online but in everyday life.
Enjoy.
1. Know your niche, research it. Whether you are out there doing a job, or promoting a product you need to be an expert. People rely on you to know it all and you should. Research should be ongoing and when new ideas fall into your realm you should be the first to know about it.
2. Believe in your self and what you are doing. It can be very disheartening to fail but it is a part of life. If you believe in what you are doing you can achieve.
3. Focus on what works, learn from what doesn’t and move on. It’s one thing to believe in something and another to take a step back and realize when something just isn’t working. Sometimes it can be hard to know when to reach that point but it is crucial, learn from those mistakes.
4. Plan on starting to work SMARTER and not just HARDER. This was a profound theme amongst our readers. Constantly revaluate what you are doing to see if there is a better way. Think about how you can earn a residual income so that each month becomes easier and more profitable.
5. Outsource. At WhyDoWork we do this all the time. There comes a point when it is more cost effective and beneficial to pay an expert rather than waste your skills doing something poorly. If your car breaks down do you research how to fix cars or take it to the mechanic? Focus on what you are good at.
6. Align yourself with good people. Whether it is an employer, affiliate company, outsourcers, lawyers, online contacts, or friends, a solid network of people makes all the difference. Networking both online and offline is crucial.
7. Treat ‘this’ as a job. Whether you are working an online job, writing posts in a blog, or are contributing in get paid to programs this is one of my favorite pieces of advice by our contest winner. Think of how you approach a job, you start on time, finish on time and work hard while you are at work. Even if you are sitting on your computer in your underwear you need to approach your tasks with the same level of seriousness if you want to succeed. (Don’t forget jobs have days off.)
8. Be organized. Get the necessary equipment you need in order to be more organized. Whether that is a prioritized to-do list or calendars filled out with milestones and goals it is important to have a quantitative means of measuring your ability to stay on track.
9. Find your motivation and revisit it. Whether it be an education for the kids, escaping debt, or your desire for a new Lamborghini, keep in mind why it is you are busting your butt so you can keep at it.
10. Set your goals and be realistic. You can’t expect to get rich overnight. There are millions of people out there competing for the same piece of the pie. Embrace those small successes because over time a lot of small achievements really add up.
I wish everyone the best of luck this year.
Cheers!

Simple truths that I always overlooked.
Thanks
Thank you for this kind of instruction, in my opinion it can be useful for the beginners who don’t know what to do exactly. This article includes ten points and if you follow them one by one, they lead you to the real success. Thought we understand that the real life is much more complicated and the thoughts which are absolutely clear when you read them can easily puzzle you in practice. But the most thrilling is you can’t say for sure whether you have a success or not till the moment you try to do something and at that moment this list help you.
The “Align Youself” comment is huge. I have tried the ready-fire-aim strategy for years and spent a lot of money and time on the wrong things. With the right mentors and opportunity now I am seeing more gains. I only wish I would have got a good mentor sooner! Thanks.
What I liked the most about this top 10 check list that it is available to everyone &everyone can apply it & start it. If anyone who starts as mentioned above & continues till he/she succeeds, it shouldn’t take that long for anyone to make as much as he/she wants to from it.
I agree 100% with the 10 points and I”m applying them since I learned about them. Thank you very much for the info.
There are many ways in which you can be successful online. I find your post one of the best tips. Thanks for sharing it with us. I wish you luck too.
I couldn’t agree with you more on these points, especially #2 Believe in your self and what you are doing. Unless you truly believe in yourself and what you do, it doesn’t matter what tools you use, what processes you follow or what marketing you engage in. Manifestation of your vision is key to success.
Thanks for this great post.

Very correct said I agree with you at all the points. Without proper research about your niche you won’t be able to find out what is the present trend in your niche.
And having faith in the work you do is another important factor that one must deeply follow, because if you won’t have the faith in your work no one else will too.
I just started a new blog about working from home.. my personal experiences.
It is definitely disheartening at first… especially when you have such high expectations like I do.. Because I KNOW that I have the potential to have a great blog with lots of followers, but I just started!
I guess it takes some time to get my name out there!
If you have any helpful tips, stories or feedback please let me know!
Thanks

Good tips. Good content is vitally important if you want to keep people coming back again and again.
I don’t keep a realistic goal for me. By saying this i don’t mean to be a millionaire overnight rather i set a goal which seems to be little above to my limit. I work hard to achieve my goals, if i fail then i land at something that i will definitely be happy with. Common saying, “shoot for stars at least you will land in moon”.
In addition – persistence is very important. You are not going to make millions overnight. Sticking with your product/site etc and giving it all you have got is the only real way to succeed.
Being able to outsource has helped my online business a great deal. I also like the tip about treating this like a real job because it is a real job if you plan to make real money.
nice info to follow
i think hard working too important
I think the point about treating your blog as a job is important. It works both ways: you have to take the blog as seriously as you would something that’s earning you your living, but also avoid letting it become your whole life.
In other words, the last part of that point, about remembering to take days off, is important. I think you’ve also got to remember that most jobs have working hours that are regular except in the case of an emergency, and that’s another good principle to stick to.

i think hard working too important
you miss the most important point here:
Work Hard.
Always good to get some incentive and good pointers great post
Rule 4 is one of the most important for me. Many times I want to jump in and get start, but end up not working smart.
Also, I have the “I must do it all” control freak concept. I plan on implementing rule 5 this year to increase my productivity and reduce my work load.
Its a way of advertising, a way for the site to draw more costumers (ppl who visit the site and see the advertisements) to there site therefore, the site will be popular and draw companies to advertise on there site, giving them more money.
I agree with believing in yourself. It should be first and foremost because without belief in yourself you can never start taking that small step towards success.

Great advices here, thanks. Also, don’t forget to not make plans as time as you’re on the road. Keep going, and be persistent in the right direction. Go crazy
Hi just thought i would tell you something.. This is twice now i’ve landed on your blog in the last 2 weeks searching for totally unrelated things. Spooky or what?
These are some great simple tips that everyone should follow. #1 is the most important one. Everyone must know and research the niche before they dive into it.
I must admit that this 10 advices is effective for everyone in their whole life. When you believe in yourself you could do anything that have think that is impossible.
People never seen the pattern of their own self-destructive behavior as they incorrectly assume that the reason things didn’t work out for them must have been due to someone else.
