Google vs. Facebook
With all the talk about PageRank changes and Google’s ever increasing desire to aggregate and track the world’s information I thought I’d post about the next step in Google’s plan to rule the online world. How can anyone forget point #6 of the Google Philosophy:
6. You can make money without doing evil.
Thus far I’d have to agree that Google has been an excellent corporate citizen, a fair and democratic search provider, and an innovator in the field of search.
However, there is a Google product on the horizon code named “Maka Maka” (reported here) that has the potential to literally change the Internet for many.
Fresh on the heels of Microsoft’s quarter billion dollar investment in Facebook, Google is set to soon release its long awaited entry into the social networking space.
What Google Knows About You
Take a second and think about how much information Google already has about you:
- If you regularly search Google, your search queries and preferences are permanently stored
- If you use Google Docs they have your spreadsheets, presentations and documents
- If you use Google Calendar, they know your schedule
- If you use iGoogle or Reader they will learn what sites you visit, and personalize the results of your searches.
- If you use Gmail, they have your emails and a copy of all your friends and contacts
- If you use Google Analytics…well as per above, you know the drill!
Keep in mind that the above is just a partial list. Maka Maka will be Google’s application of a social layer over all of their existing and new applications. This could have detrimental effects on existing social news and networking sites. Google is well known for making things terribly easy on users.
I am a big time Google fan and since I probably use every Google product out there, they likely have enough information to complete my entire profile for me.
How You Can Use this Opportunity to Make Money
It has been rumored that the API to Maka Maka will be totally open. As with Facebook, this will enable anyone, anywhere to use the Google social graph to reach the masses and turn a profit. Unlike the devastatingly poor entrants into the “make money online” space such as paid wiki’s, this product will provide you with a real chance to gain immediate and widespread traffic with the power of the Google community behind it.
If you don’t have any programming or development experience, make Elance your best friend.
All you need now is an idea. Start brainstorming! ![]()

Interesting. Glad I stumbled across this site. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out when this “maka maka” stuff comes out.
Those that moved first when the Facebook API was released seemed to do the best. Thanks for promoting this early.

FB will surely get a run for its money with Google entering the social networking space with makamaka. Love the sound of the APIs.
Thanks for posting on this
