I’d first just like to thank everyone who entered the iPod Nano Giveaway. We had a tremendous response to the contest with 244 total entries! Congratulations to our winner, Dianna who writes My Angels from Heaven and Me, a neat little blog about life as a stay-at-home mom.

How the Winner was Chosen

ipodFor those interested in how we chose the winner or if you’d like some tips on how to easily select a winner in your own contests, this is how we did it using Microsoft Excel:

  • Everyone who subscribed via RSS and sent in the codeword (which was “Peter Pumpkin Head”) was given 1 entry
  • Everyone who blogged about the contest was given 5 entries
  • The maximum number of entries per contestant was 6

I then added the names to an Excel sheet in a single column. Once this is done, you can just click an empty cell and go up to the trusty formula bar and enter:

=RANDBETWEEN(1,244)

This will generate a random number between 1 and 244, which was the number of entries we had. Match that up with the name on that row and viola, there’s your winner! :D

Maybe we Need a Bigger Contest?

This contest was so well received that I think we need to make the next one larger. I was trying to think of what a next updesirable prize would be for the next contest and I came up with: massive flatscreen monitor(s). What else would you like to see in our next contest? I was thinking that would be the most suitable reward for those working on their computer frequently. Who doesn’t want a huge, high quality monitor? :) We’re having a large new product release in our community forums in a few weeks so we’ll be having another contest very soon. Stick around for the details.

Our next contest is going to be a lot less traditional and a lot more fun! I can’t wait to share the details :)
