I like to think I know what I’m doing when it comes to online advertising and promotion. I’ve tried everything under the sun, and when something works I research it to no end until I feel I’ve learned as much as I can. In the past this has worked excellently.
One tip I thought I’d share today relates to Google Adwords. Google has been heavily criticized the last year or two by the webmaster community because of unclear policies, increasing advertising costs, and for some, decreasing revenue.
I still think Google is a great advertising partner and source of income via Adsense. Today’s tip is all about getting a lot of traffic for a few pennies. This is a technique I used about a month ago with great results and have used for a few years. Enjoy!
Step 1: Find a Keyword with No Ads
Pretty straightforward. For my search I chose a popular blogger “John Chow”. At the time I bought the ad in early December there were no ads showing up on Google.com for this term.
Step 2: Set the Bar Low
Log into your Adwords account, and choose the minimum spend for your keyword, and all related keywords.
Step 3: Be Clever with Your Writing
Last step is to write an extremely clever and well optimized advertisement. To the left is a
screenshot of the ad copy I went with. Note how I’ve placed my keyword in both the title of the ad and in the body. I’ve also made it funny
which significantly improves the potential of capturing a customer.
Step 4: When Others Catch On, Move On
Your bound to have a few copycats or other players jump on with the same idea in a few weeks. Once they see you’re the only advertisement running they’ll quickly outbid you for the top spot. If you get pushed far enough down that it no longer matters, cancel the ad and start the chain back up at Step 1 with a new keyword.
disclaimer: This works extremely well.

Good tips here, and a very unique angle. When the time comes to pay for ads, I’ll know what to do!
