Common post themes from new members often include details on getting burned in their past forays into work at home, and their desire to get some help on succeeding the next time around. Many people today are trying to work from home and failing, why? If working from home is such a good idea, then what are you doing wrong that stops you making money? In this post we will discuss some common work from home mistakes that people make and how you can avoid them.
1. Your Work from Home Opportunity is a Scam
Unfortunately there are many work from home scams available today and still many people are falling for them. Before choosing a work from home opportunity you should look at genuine work from home jobs boards, such as the Why Do Work jobs board, and see what genuine opportunities are available. Consider these opportunities in light of some of the other mistakes people are making.
2. Your Work from Home Opportunity Does Not Suit Your Skills
Another mistake that people make when choosing a work from home opportunity or starting a home-based business is that they do not match it to their skills. For example, if you are a quiet, introverted person then you should not consider sales. Many home-based business opportunities require sales but if you choose one of these and are not a sales person then you will not make money from it. If you choose a freelance career that demands artistic ability in a certain area that you do not have then you will not be able to make money from this opportunity.
3. You Have Not Done Enough Market Research
Another reason that many people fail in their home-based business is that they have not done enough market research. If you are starting your own home-based business it is important that you know what people are looking for and what they are prepared to pay for that you can offer. If you are looking for a work from home opportunity then it is important that you analyze what is available, what opportunity provides the best remuneration and where your skills will be best put to use.
4. You Don’t Have a Specific Niche
If you are freelancing or starting your own home-based business then you should also consider your niche. Try to focus on one or two areas that are in demand. If you are a freelance writer you may focus on a specific subject or a particular type of writing material e.g. website articles, journal articles, print books, or eBooks. If you sell affiliate products you will probably focus on a particular type of product such as health products or business tools.
Starting a home-based business or finding a work from home opportunity requires research and it requires knowing your own skills. When choosing a work from home opportunity you should also check that it is a genuine work from home opportunity. If you are freelancing or starting a home-based business then carefully consider your niche and don’t try to do everything.

I think people fail because they give up too easily..most sites have pictures of fancy cars and big houses so its easy to get tricked into thinking that you can be rich doing nothing!

I could add a couple to that!
Lack of commitment:-
There are the ‘opportunity Bunnies’ who hop from one scheme to the next, always attracted to the newest, all-singing-all-dancing heavily promoted biz op, then lose interest when they don’t make money in the first week or two and so hop off to the next big thing.
Plain old fashioned laziness:-
They want this, they want that, they are attracted by seeing people succeed and they really should sit down and learn this stuff but they can’t be bothered. With a bit of luck someone will sign up into their downline who will make millions and earn them a tasty commission.
The Freeriders :-
They want to earn before they pay out!
There arent too many businesses around that last long without investment of both time and money. The more of each, the better.
These guys are another bunch who just want someone esle to make them rich, just for turning up and saying ‘Hi’.
But they don’t want to commit financially or miss their favorite TV programmes and are doomed to failure as a result.
