and only one of them comes out successful.
This phenomenon isn’t new. From job interviews, to getting a promotion at work, to making money on the Internet. What is it that causes some people to succeed and others to fail? I’ve been busy lately with quite a bit of travel but I did have a few minutes to read the New York Times last week and came across this article which I bookmarked to share with you.
From the article:
“After three decades of painstaking research, the Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck believes that the answer to the puzzle lies in how people think about intelligence and talent. Those who believe they were born with all the smarts and gifts they’re ever going to have approach life with what she calls a “fixed mind-set.†Those who believe that their own abilities can expand over time, however, live with a “growth mind-set.â€
You Are Not the Best Person You Can Be.
That pretty much sums up the answer. If you believe you can’t do something because you’re not talented enough you’ll probably never do it. If you embrace your mistakes and use them as an opportunity to learn, the research shows you’ll undoubtedly achieve more than someone with a closed mind. The ability to learn from experience was cited as the No. 1 ingredient for creative achievement in a poll of 143 creativity researchers cited in “Handbook of Creativity†in 1999.
The next time you don’t think you’re talented, smart, or good enough to do something - do it anyways! Even if you fail use your failure as an opportunity to learn and more importantly grow towards your ever expanding potential ![]()

Interesting article. Not every best qualified persons can reach the top, there will be always someone will be left behind or someone will loose at the end. Because in life there is no winner without the looser. Thanks for the insight.

Hi,
Great reminder to us all - to me, talent is a burden, as we have to break the thing your article called ‘fixed mind-set’.
IMO, if you see yourself as someone that doesn’t have the talent but has passion to pursue your goal, you are on the right track
Cheers!

Even if you fail use your failure as an opportunity to learn and more importantly grow towards your ever expanding potential.
With a simple word, learn from the past, is the best teacher.

This reminds me of a book that my husband read a few years ago. I think it was called Rich Dad, Poor Dad. It was written by a Hawaiian who grew up in poverty, but whose father always took risks in order to make more out of his life. He compared his father’s life course to that of his friends dad who was a typical office worker. He put his money in the bank. Never invested in anything high risk. Never tried to be an entrepreneur. He ended up destitute in his retirement. The guy who started out poor and kept trying and risking ended up a millionaire. I guess the same principal applies to our own abilities.

No 2 people can ever be the same. I have hired 100’s of people over the years and it does not mean that because someone has more degrees or experience that they will get the job. There is a hidden underlying energy about people that set them apart. Learn to keep with integrity and anything is possible.

There are a couple of things in life you should always remember.
1. If not you then who?
2. The power of positive thinking is endless.
3. It’s not knowledge that’s power…but the application of knowledge.
Now join me and let’s go forward together and succeed!!!
GREAT POST!
