I’ve just released a plugin for WordPress that should help increase your Adsense revenues. The description is below and the download link can be found on the WhyDoWork Adsense Plugin page.
WhyDoWork Adsense is a WordPress plugin that allows you to insert Adsense ads on your blog without modifying the template. More then that, you can set it up to show different Adsense ads for articles older then X days (x is the number of days you decide).
For example, you can insert a 468×60 ad at the bottom of a new article, and once that article turns 7 days old it will have a more aggressive 336×280 ad blended with the text from the beggining of that article.
This way your regular readers will not be bothered by your ads, while visitors coming to older posts from search engines or other sources, will see a version that is monetized better.
Another feature is the ability to have articles without ads inserted in them, very useful for payed reviews, where you might not be allowed to have ads (I think it’s the case with PayPerPost).
Please leave any comments you might have in this post.

Perfect - this is just the plugin I’ve been looking for. Thanks so much for paying someone else to do it for us… somehow I think you’re going to get a lot of friends and thanks for doing this.
Frustratingly I’m going away for four weeks, but as soon as I’m back in the country, this plugin is going up on all my blogs.
Glad to hear you find it useful Andy :). I already have some ideas for the second version of the plugin. If I can and my programmer has time, I’ll have v1.1 up and running with some extra cool options by the time you return :).
Implimented your shylock adsense plugin, found it kept my posts from showing.
I just activated it, didn’t set any of the options. I am running adsense injection, however, which I didn’t deactivate beforehand, so that might have caused some of the problem.
Adsense Injection + Shylock adsense = no no
An idea for the next plugin - allow the user to set Shylock adsense to place ads randomly into posts.
Maybe allowing the user to select placement of ads on the top left, or top right, or bottom right, but never in the middle, or never on the bottom left.
I like the way adsense injection handles it.
I’ll look into it for version 1.1. Might be 1-2 weeks before it comes out though.
Placement inside the post, not just at the top and the bottom are on the list, I’ll have to see about the random placement. You’re the second person to tell me about this.
LOVE the plugin.
Trying to run Shylock on the latest version of Wordpress (http://www.pageonekentucky.com)
It disables any sort of php contact form I implement. Doesn’t matter which plugin it is. One example is the Dagon Design Form Mailer ( http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/secure-php-form-mailer-script/ )
Is there a namespace conflict? Are both plugins trying to call the same function name?
Care to take a look and let me know at the e-mail address provided? Definitely don’t want to use a different plugin.
To update things: Shylock isn’t necessarily interfering with my contact forms, to be specific. It’s preventing any and all content on my Pages (not posts, but pages– e.g., ‘About’ section) from displaying.
Any suggestions??
Jake, I know the same happens when SA is used together with the Adsense Injection plugin. I’ll have my programmer take a look at it and fix it for v1.1 if he can find the problem. Not sure he will have time this weekend though. In a couple of days anyway.
I downloaded the plugin. I will install it next day. Thanks for releasing the plugin to the public.
Also, your blog has a cool design. I really liked it.
Glad to hear that Joyce Babu. Enjoy the plugin
Awesome plugin! This is a great idea! I knew I had to introduce more ads to increase revenue, so I have been looking around for good plugins.
Inserting ads only into old posts is brilliant, because 90% of visitors to those old posts come from search engines. And we all know search engine visitors are WAY more likely to click on ads.
Just one question, is there any way to have it align somewhere in the middle of the post?
Hi Geoff. Not yet, but the version coming out this week will have both the random and the middle options.
By middle I understand inserting ads in the middle of the post, either between paragraphs or surrounded by text, on the left or the right side.
Thanks for the comment!
Awesome! Definitely looking forward to it! Any idea when this week? Going to add it to my ticklers.
Not really. Might be tomorrow, might not be this week. The random positioning part is done, but positioning in the middle is a bit more difficult because of the tags. And my programmer just let me know that he’s taking a vacation starting tomorrow, so it depends if he can finish it tonight.
I am experiencing the same thing as JD, but I have no other plugins activated and only Akismet and Hello Dolly are installed, so I don’t think it has anything to do with any other adsense plugins being installed. Any other ideas?
Update to my previous post. It turns out that if you haven’t entered your google code and set your settings your posts don’t show up, but once you do this they do. I’d be interested to know if JD found the same, if so, problem solved.
Thanks for the great plugin!
David, we tried replicating the damn problem like crazy and we couldn’t find it. Tried all the plugins people have mentioned they had and found nothing wrong. Thanks for putting us out of our misery :).

I am having trouble downloading the plugin… I keep getting a corrupted file.
When i activate the plugin all the content in my post (singe.php) disappear !
In the localhost it works fine.
Strange.
rasheed, paste google code in the plugin admin page if you didn’t already. It should work then.
This issue will be fixed for the new version, but it will take 1 week before I release it, when my programmer comes back from his holiday.
Hugh, it works for me. Try a different browser please
Well, I have tried both IE6 and Firefox, and I get a corrupted file each time.
Is there maybe another location to download from or something?
Sent you an email with the file attached. You probably used “save as” instead of a left click on the link.
I think you should have removed Adsense from the plugin name. It works for all ad codes and banners.
Yeah, but most people know what Adsense is and don’t use other programs. And for banners most put it in the template (header or sidebar). Haven’t seen that many using banners in posts.
i downloaded this plugins quite few weeks back but going to use today, but i wonder how to use all it…?
i am very new in using adsense plugins.
Blogtantra, go to the Shylock Adsense options page, paste the code that you want inserted in the Code#1 area and then pick the positioning of the ad for main pages, single posts and pages. In the lower part, you can specify different setting for individual articles older then X days.
