Version 1.2 of the Shylock Adsense Plugin is here for those that use it. It’s tested on WordPress 2.2+ and 2.3 and we’ve had no problems.
Changes from v1.1
- Top Middle position added. It display the ads above the text, centered in the middle. Top displays the ads to the left. Screenshots below.
- it doesn’t matter anymore if the random position is selected first or second. It can be in any position now.
- you can choose for the ads not to be displayed if you’re logged in as administrator
- if you insert <!-no-adsense–> into a post, it will not display any ads on that page (alternative to posting the ID’s in the admin panel).
- sidebar widgets added
- it should be XHTML 1.0 compliant (thanks to Michael Lankton)
You may have to enter the options again for the Older then X days settings. Please check after you upgrade to see if they’re still there.
Upgrading
- Deactivate the old version of the plugin
- Delete it
- Copy the new version
- Activate it

I’m hoping to release another major update of the plugin in November or December. If you have any ideas for new options you’d like to see, please leave a comment below.

I’m using it for 3 months now and my WordPress is running so smoothly. I’m really glad I’ve picked Shylock AdSense from the multitude of plugins available. Right now, it’s perfect as it is. Anyway, keep it up.

Unfortunately, I’m still waiting for the category exclusion option in this plugin. Sigh! Maybe in the next release. But love the concept so will keep checking back.

Bug!
See this page: http://ruicruz.forunsbb.com/2007/12/08/yo-yo-geeks-dos-feeds/
When you’re using marks to list someting, AdSense dont show the marks as the same time as the code.
But it IS a very good plugin.
Thanks!

Cool plugin
!
Just a feature to add to your plugin : a “middle middle” position, like “top middle” (that already exists). It would be perfect with that.
Because like it is now, you can insert adsense without breaking your design at top, but not in middle of the post (if you have a youtube video and a small main width for exemple…).
Thanks for your plugin and all the improvements you will do :).

I just upgraded my PHP to version 5 from version 4, and the Shylock Adsense that I had placed on my home page stopped being inserted. It is still working on single pages and old posts, but not in the posts on my home page. Do you know why this might be?
Alexandru responded on 24 Mar 2008 at 9:53 pm #
Bryce. I got no idea. I’ll talk with my programmer about it.

Ok. I just downgraded back to 4.4.8 and the Shylock Adsense works again on my home page. Upgrading to 5.2.5 breaks it for some reason. There must be a syntax change in the newer version of PHP.

Have you been able to talk with your programmer about the PHP 5 issue? My web host provider wants to upgrade my server to PHP 5 as soon as he can. I’d really like to continue to use Shylock Adsense; it’s an exceptional plugin for adding Adsense to a blog.

Talked to the programmer. He’s starting work on a new version of the plugin and he’ll make sure it works on PHP 5 and WordPress 2.5.

This plugin is severely broken when using the gallery feature in wordpress 2.5.
It spits out double adsense units everywhere when viewing the gallery..
