URGENT!!! - PLEASE READ...SPYBOT PROBLEM WITH CLICKBANK

Postby swagen on Fri Feb 02, 2007 5:40 pm

I will make this short and to the point.

There is a definite problem with Clickbank hoplinks with IE 7.

I had several people, including myself test this.

In the tests conducted approximately 57% of the time, when clicking through to the pay screen for a Clickbank product, at the bottom it says AFF=NONE.

If there is ANYBODY here who has any clout with Clickbank, PLEASE contact them and make them aware of this problem.

Affiliates are getting murdered, myself including. My sales have plummeted through the floor.

What makes this even worse is that it is apparantly an intermediate problem, which makes it all the more worse. As a former QA tester I can tell you that intermittant problems are close to impossible to find.

This is not theory, this is not rumor, this is not alarmest talk. This has been tested and narrowed down to IE 7.

In just checking my user logs, I noticed that 67% of the people going to my affiliate site are using IE 7. This is an alarming stat which means you have a 38.19% chance of losing a sale (57% failure rate x 67% users with IE 7) each time a customer goes to your affiliate link.

Somebody here has to be powerful enough with Clickbank to get these people to fix their system before we all take a terrible beating.

I am personally calling them, but I am pretty much just a small fish in a very big pond and I doubt I'll make much headway.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

After all, this affects ALL of us.

I'm probably mistaken here, but I believe most, if not all, of the major networks use cookies. Clickbank uses first party cookies which are blocked less often. However, if you use a framed page to refer a customer, and your frame sets the cookie, then it will be a third party cookie.

I also think I've read once somewhere else (I've read too much to remember) about a private affiliate program or two that keeps the records of their customers associated with the affiliate who referred them. This negates the need for the cookie to be kept on the customers machine as well as tracks future, upsell, and backend sales to the affiliate. I don't know how widespread this is, but for a network like CJ or CB to do this would be a huge database to maintain for all it's products.

I don't think this problem is going to go away. As time goes on there will be a greater push to block hidden software from getting on one's machine.

It is a great opportunity for anyone who can come up with cookie-less tracking.

In the meantime, I think I will stay away from Clickbank. It sounds like it isn't worth the effort.

I have not attempted to check my clickbank links also. I use them alot and it's dissapointing if they don't care about browser and cookie issues. I will call also and maybe if enough of us do this there will be a change. There are other affiliate programs out there.

Oh gee. I only just started out with Clickbank and now I'm really worried! What if all my efforts are being mostly lost to fried cookies?

Please keep us updated on this as I'd like to know what's happening too.

Now I"m depressed. :(

I downloaded IE7.0.

I don't have any problems with it.

Anyone else tested?

Any news on whether this is still an issue?
And if so is there anything we can do from our end?

Hi fw2007,

It looks like it evolved into both.

Andy is right, most if not all major affiliate networks use tracking cookies. They have to do this to credit commissions. It's nothing to worry about. They have to do it somehow and tracking cookies is a good solution.

The two previous spam post are the reason I don't hang around much anymore.
( Not that many care )

This post is over two years old and was a TEMPORARY PROBLEM to begin with.
If idi... , ah people keep posting to this tread just to spam then it should be deleted so it doesn't show up in my RSS and waste my time.
